Volunteer Volunteer

Volunteer With Purpose

Support blind and visually impaired golfers by becoming a volunteer guide with the Triangle Blind Golfers Association. No golf experience required. Training and support are provided.

Volunteers Make Golf Possible

Volunteers are the foundation of the Triangle Blind Golfers Association. As a volunteer guide, you help blind and visually impaired golfers experience the game of golf in a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment. You do not need to know how to play golf or have prior experience. What matters most is your willingness to communicate clearly, offer encouragement, and walk alongside someone as they participate in the game. Every volunteer plays a meaningful role in creating access, confidence, and community.

No Golf Knowledge Required

Many volunteers join TBGA with little or no golf experience. That is completely okay. Volunteer guides are not instructors and are not expected to teach golf technique. Your role is to assist with communication, alignment, distance awareness, and course navigation using clear verbal guidance. All volunteers receive training before participating, and support is always available. You will never be expected to figure things out on your own.

At the heart of volunteering is helping someone move forward with confidence. That purpose guides how we train, support, and value our volunteers.

Training and Ongoing Support

Triangle Blind Golf Association_5

The Triangle Blind Golfers Association provides training to ensure volunteers feel confident and prepared.

Training includes:

How blind and low-vision golfers experience the course

Clear and effective verbal communication techniques

Basic positioning and alignment guidance

On-course awareness and safety

Understanding your role as a guide

Support does not end after training. Volunteers are encouraged to ask questions, learn through experience, and grow alongside the golfers they support.

That purpose shapes how we train, support, and stand beside our volunteers.

What Does a Volunteer Guide Do?

Volunteer guides walk with golfers during clinics and on-course play, providing verbal information and reassurance so golfers can focus on the experience. Typical volunteer responsibilities include: ✅ Describing the layout of the hole or practice area ✅ Helping golfers align their stance and club ✅ Communicating distances and landmarks ✅ Assisting with ball location ✅ Supporting safe movement around the course Volunteers do not provide instruction unless directed by program leaders. Your primary role is support, not coaching.

Flexible and Respectful of Your Time

Volunteering with TBGA is designed to be flexible. Some volunteers participate weekly, while others help as their schedule allows. There is no long-term obligation required to get started. We work to match volunteer availability with program needs while respecting each volunteer's personal schedule.

Who Makes a Great Volunteer?

Volunteers come from all backgrounds and walks of life. You may be a great fit if you are: ✅ Patient and willing to learn ✅ Comfortable communicating clearly ✅ Encouraging and respectful ✅ Open to working as part of a team ✅ Interested in supporting accessibility and inclusion Golf experience is not required. Only a positive attitude and a willingness to support others.

Why Volunteering Matters

For blind and visually impaired golfers, the presence of a trained volunteer guide can make the difference between sitting on the sidelines and fully participating. Volunteers help create moments of independence, confidence, and accomplishment. Many volunteers describe the experience as deeply rewarding and impactful. The relationships built on the course often extend beyond the game.
